Freshers Prove Too Strong For Queen’s

UCC progressed to the quarter finals of the Fresher A Football Championship with a convincing 2-14 to 1-07 victory over Queen’s University, Belfast in Ballykelly on Thursday night. UCC dominated for large parts of the game but were troubled on occasions by a battling Queen’s side. The northern side begin brightly with the opening two scores before UCC hit seven unanswered points to move five ahead just before half time. However, Queen’s struck for a timely goal shortly after to leave two between the sides, 0-7 to 1-2.

Queen’s continued where they left off after the break and hit three points in as many minutes to move in front once more. UCC though took complete control from then on as they dominated in all sectors of the field from defence to attack. UCC moved ahead soon after and outscored their opponents 2-7 to 0-2 for the remainder of the game. The two goals came within a minute of each other and killed the game as a contest as UCC secured an away clash with DCU next Thursday.
