Impressive UCC Freshers Advance To Semi Final

A battling UCC advanced to the Higher Education GAA Fresher 1 Football Championship semi final following a deserved victory over DCU in DCU Sports Grounds yesterday. UCC recovered from an early setback, trailing 0-5 to no score late in the first half, to secure a fully deserving win with two goals shortly before half time proving highly influential. UCC held a slender 2-1 to 0-6 lead at half time and while Patrick Durcan’s 37th minute goal tied the sides, UCC pushed on to secure victory. DCU may have snatched victory late on but had a 55th minute penalty saved and were also denied a match winning goal in injury time. UCC held on though to book a semi final meeting with Maynooth University next Thursday.
